Batesville Arkansas , located in the foothills of the beautiful Ozark Mountains, has ample opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast. The city sits on the banks of the White River, which is also the site of a park that offers fishing, horseshoes, volleyball, a walking trail, and picnic pavilions and park concerts. The town of Batesville is also home to a picture perfect, nine hole golf course with Bermuda grass greens and fairways. Batesville sits in the middle of the famed Arkansas Ozark Gateway Region and several state parks in the area offer a unique variety of recreational facilities and activities. Starting with Mammoth Spring State Park, which is located east of the city of Mammoth Spring, just off U.S. Highway 63. This scenic park includes an 1886 Depot, which was restored and houses train memorabilia and other historical objects from the Ozarks region. Lake Charles State Park spans 645 acres and is located near five scenic rivers and a 14,000-acre Game and Fish Management Area, and offers camping, swimming, picnicking and guided nature hikes. Just three miles from Lake Charles State Park is Powhatan Courthouse State Park, which is not only the site of a recreational park, but features a courthouse and other historic buildings that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Bull Shoals State Park is known as one of the best fishing and boating lakes in the country. The huge 45,440-acre lake was formed in 1951 when a dam was placed across the White River, creating a fisherman’s paradise filled with rainbow and brown trout, crappie, bass and bream. Bull Shoals Park also has over 85 campsites, playgrounds, picnic areas, pavilions and over two miles of scenic hiking trails.

There’s more to Batesville than just exciting outdoor recreational opportunities, however. There’s also a variety of local entertainment, including live music and a seven-screen cinema, and the Batesville Community Theater. Being the second oldest city in Arkansas, the heritage of the city is very important to Batesville, as is evident in their very well restored historic downtown district. Take your time to browse through specialty shops on Historic Main Street that offer unusual antiques and collectibles. Dine in one of the town’s fine restaurants and sample mouth watering smoked meat, fresh trout and country cuisine. Race fans will want to check out the Batesville Speedway, just seven miles west of Batesville, and well known for its’ “Comp Cams Topless 100” race held each year. Batesville is also near the Ozark Folk Center, which gives visitors a glimpse of life as it was years ago in the Ozarks. There are daily live craft demonstrations, live entertainment, special fairs held at Thanksgiving and Christmas and other festivals and special events throughout the year. The Center is located one mile north of the town of Mountain View. Other attractions in Batesville include the Old Independence Regional Museum, Riverfront Grand Prix, Kaleidoscope Playground, and the Jubile Antique Mall & Flea Market.
